In May 2007, PRASAD Children’s Dental Health Program began providing preventive dental care services to pregnant women and infants at Sullivan County Public Health Services in Liberty, N.Y.
Each woman receives a preventive dental visit and exam, and nearly every woman has some form of gum disease.
Sullivan County’s Public Health Director, Carol Ryan, explains the urgency behind the program. “Pregnant women are more prone to gingivitis and other gum diseases, which may lead to infections that can affect the mother’s, and the baby’s, immune systems.” Learn more…
