What We Do
PRASAD CDHP services are delivered via a state-of-the-art mobile clinic and portable dental unit. This approach was chosen because of the rural nature of the county and the lack of public transportation. These services are provided through arrangements with schools and colleges; with local agencies such as Social Services, County Public Health, Head Start, and Youth Bureau; and with New York State officials.
In the past decade, PRASAD CDHP has served more than 59,000 children, providing more than 165,000 procedures, at over 17 different community sites in Sullivan and Ulster Counties. In 2007, PRASAD CDHP expanded its services to the Pregnant Women and Infants Program, which educates pregnant women about how good oral hygiene and regular dental care benefits their babies’ health as well as their own, and the Smiles for Teens educational program, which increases awareness and encourages participation in good dental care habits among this age group.
The following elements are key to our effectiveness:
- We provide high-quality, accessible and appropriate dental care to children at their schools and other
community sites. - We support and facilitate children’s enrollment in health care coverage programs.
- We encourage and teach positive behavior for optimal dental health practices among children, teens
and pregnant mothers. - We build strong partnerships with the community through advisory groups, task forces, coalitions and
networks to reach common goals.
PRASAD CDHP has received recognition from many government and community organizations for our outstanding service in the region, including:
